King George Education Foundation Names 2018 Innovation Grant Recipients

Awardees Include STEM, MakerSpace, and Career Advancement Programs

King George, VA — The King George Education Foundation (KGEF) today announced the recipients of its 2018 Innovation Grants. Over $3,500 in funding was awarded to faculty and staff at King George Elementary, Sealston Elementary, King George Middle and King George High Schools.

Annie Cupka, President of KGEF, issued the following statement:

“King George Education Foundation is thrilled to award four Innovation Grants in 2018, nearly doubling the amount of money awarded in any previous year. These grants help us accomplish a central goal of supporting innovative programs for students and employees of King George County Schools. We look forward to seeing how these dedicated faculty and staff members implement their ideas to inspire and educate students.”  

2018 Winners Include:

“Learning is Electric” by Yvonne Richard, King George Elementary School

  • Hands-on learning with Squishy Circuits allowing students to experiment with conductors and insulators and create their own circuits.

“Sealston STEM Club” by Sierra Hoskins & Theresa Lefeave, Sealston Elementary School

  • Expansion of educational robot and coding kits for STEM club, STEM classes, and community demonstrations.

“MakerSpace Tools” by Melissa Moody, Katherine Ross, and Ameer Mir, King George High School

  • Tools and materials for high school MakerSpace that would be available to all students for class projects and those who want to learn to build.

“Early College Career Exposure Program” by Jennifer Collins, Robin Mitchell, and Carleen Carey, Joint King George Middle School/King George High School

  • Reaching historically underserved communities through participation in the Alfred Street Baptist Church Historically Black College Festival.
